As we usher in the new year, the next zodiac to be ushered in would be the Ox year. Today, instead of sharing a CNY related article, I wish to discuss on this occurrence in a bazi chart - one where you would see duplicate pillars. In bazi terminology, this is called "Fu-yin".
Why so special this time round?
In this new year, we have the Ox year as we all know. And in case you may not be aware, each year would end off with the Ox month (typically in month of January). The thing to highlight is for babies born in 2022 January, they would likely have a “Fu-yin” in their bazi. What is so special is we would see almost TWO consecutive months of “Fu-yin”.
The "Fu-yin" period falls between:
5 Jan 2022 – 31 Jan 2022
4 February 2022 – 4 Mar 2022
What is "Fu-yin"?
"Fu-yin" literally means photocopy – duplication. As long as two pillars are of the same within your bazi chart, it is considered "fu-yin".
Over these two months, the month and year pillar would be exactly the same. As such, babies born on these dates would have a bazi chart containing the "fu-yin" situation.
As per the above 2nd image, we even have a day in Feb 2022 with all four 壬寅 pillars of "fu-yin". Such does not occur often.
Is "fu-yin" good or bad?
When "fu-yin" happens to appear in one’s chart, it may not be all bad.
However, the most important thing to take note:
In addition, one’s luck may be volatile when passing through certain phase in life. You may see one phase of life that maybe wonderful and a sudden fall from grace. Some of these bazi charts may also imply a likelihood to have poorer luck in marriage.
Do note, this sharing is purely on bazi chart alone. As you may know, one's luck in life would also be influence by their luck pillar - 十年大运.
As such, for parents whom are planning to have a child and with EDD over this 2 months, may wish to take note. It is recommended to consider a birth date selection due to reasons shared above.
Were you born in "fu-yin" months and implied meaning?
I did a quick research over the past 30 years. There were some days where "fu-yin" also appeared across all four pillars. If you were born in this month and year, you would likely have such "fuyin" in your bazi chart too.
1983 Nov 癸亥
1989 May 己巳
1994 Oct 甲戌
1978 Jun 戊午
Here's something interesting to share if you have all pillars similar. Very likely, your character is pretty much 'one dimension'. People around you may tend to find you have a straight forward character and easier to understand.
Year and month pillar also represent your early years. As such, whether the elements if good or bad may also influence your luck during then.
Do you happen to be born on such dates/months and have similar bazi chart? Did you experience any volatile luck? Feel free to drop us a note or comment.
To continue from our previous article addressing on property facing, we now look at another aspect of property feng shui during selection.
In Singapore, most of us stay in high rise buildings – be it HDB or condominium apartments. During the process of buying (resale or new), some of us may be particular and have some ideal facing in mind (if you do).
Well, question is, when does this external view comes in to affect you in terms of feng shui perspective? With many BTO selection exercise and condo launches, potential buyers have often asked me questions pertaining to their house facing.
So in this article, I would run through an overview facings for home hunters for a better understanding. This will serve to give you a reference check (or red flag) if you may need to pay extra attention to your property’s facing regarding to its feng shui.
Before I start, property fengshui aspects is derive from generally two areas:
Question is, when should I be concern of the external?
Let’s list down what are the typical facing one would see:
2. Pool or water view
Generally good but it depends on a few factors. Depending on your property’s bazi, it is not guaranteed that if you face a pool, it means wealth. (Yes, swimming pool can trigger wealth luck) It is dependent on your property’s bazi chart. What kind of water features at the pool can also be good or bad. Examples. Think water fountain, waterfall etc.
It also depends on which floor you stay.
3. Unblock facing roads
This is tricky. This is due to there are various possibilities depending on:
a. Your property faces a straight road with busy or no traffic
b. Your property facing a bend curve road
c. Your property faces a round about
d. Your property faces a split road (Y junction or T junction)
e. Your property faces a flyover or MRT/LRT track
f. If the traffic is oncoming to your house or away
These are some of those in consideration. Again, height and noise level also plays an important factor.
4. Unblock view facing landed house
This can be nice and some condo enjoys such facing. This however, can be tricky and would depend on the façade of the properties you are facing. Height of your property matters too.
5. Units at top floor of an apartment block
I usually feel this applies to the top 2 stories of the block. Typically, units here may enjoy good view and are windy. However, units here are prone to negative feng shui depending on what lies opposite you in other property apartment your property faces.
6. Block view facing other buildings or apartments
By comparison, this seem to naturally be a less favourable facing. But fret not, depending on your property’s bazi chart, this can actually be a good thing to trigger good luck.
If you are still with me (Yes, I know it’s a long article), I hope the above listed gives you a good perspective of various facing by breaking down into various categories and when you should pay extra attention.
Certainly, the above listed are not exhaustive and there are other kind of facing though less common. It is especially challenging for the untrained eye if it is a new property sale where you only have the site plan for reference.
If you do enjoy the article, do share with your friends and family!
I receive some questions as this buyer faces some dilemma of choices for her BTO selection exercise at Kim Keat. One of her question was, among the choice units (circled in red), the buyer was not sure where is the main facing. Is this determine by the main door? Isn’t it the same?
If you are a new home owner, this can come across as confusing. Most people are often unsure and understandably make assumption.
Why is this important?
Importance of main door and front facing of property differences
The main door is like the mouth of the house and qi to the house is 'received' in from here. As such, it is hence critical and need to be at a prosperous sector of the house with good qi. It is afterall considered as 阳宅三要 - '3 must haves' in a residential property.
The prosperous sector of the house is then determined by where the property faces. How do you determine that? A rule of thumb is to take the property's side with the most window facing. This facing usually also has more movement. (e.g. facing main road, or facing a park) This is one of the area which we use to as part of our process to determine the fengshui grading of the property.
Hence, the front facing of the house is not the same as the main door.
Hope you see the connection. Through these selection criteria, we can then help filter and select a choice unit. Cream of the crop choice.
I would share other selection headaches that may easily be overlooked by home buyers encountered in my next post.
Recently, I notice there were various new BTO projects being launched at one time. Imagine as a new home buyer (applies to new condo as well), one would be faced with a glut of choices. If this is not overwhelming enough, adding in various criteria and priorities such the type of layout, number of rooms, facing and pricing… the list goes on.
Well, if you add feng shui to part of the selection, the considerations get even more mind boggling.
If you are concern or on the fence over feng shui matters, should you be particular about it at this point while getting your new home?
I thought it may be useful to share the "what" and "how", and some things a layman may wish to know when getting their dream house.
Each property’s feng shui has influence on the wealth, health (most of you would know these 2) as well as relationship aspect of occupiers too. The key to this depends on its surrounding, floor plan layout and time factor.
So when choosing your choice units, some examples you should be aware of:
The above are some questions one may wish to consider before committing.
Imagine if you are buying any of the BTO units per below (image A), some considerations are:
a. there are 3 different facing from this block, which facing has better feng shui grade?
b. this block faces a river, which unit can tap on this river for wealth luck?
c. are there any units to pick or to avoid?
It is a big plus if you are able to already select one unit that has a better feng shui during this selection stage.
Don’t most homebuyers only engage for feng shui related service when the house is ready?
Yes. Presently, most home buyers that I notice are buying first before checking on feng shui aspect. However, in the event of having a house with a less than desired feng shui, feng shui remedy would have to be implement. Some feng shui issues do not have remedies.
So if we put things in perspective, one can avoid units with negative feng shui. It is certainly always better to have a unit with average or excellent feng shui than one that requires patches/remedies later.
How can you get units with good feng shui before even construction?
Base on the facing, surrounding of site plan, along with the unit’s floor plan, we can ascertain and assess the likely feng shui grade quality. This allows us to filter which unit is better based on a preliminary assessment approach.
An assessment audit process revolves on:
In fact, by filtering out units with negative feng shui, that is half the battle won!
In summary, buying a house in SG is always possibly the highest priced item you would pay in life. Not to forget, you would spend years staying at this house of yours. By understanding the feng shui of your unit, one can certainly benefit from a better feng shui grade unit or property. On the flip side, you can also avoid property units with poorer grade of feng shui.

I met a lady through a bazi consultation. What was interesting while reading her bazi (as below) was the number of fire in her chart. In some part of our consultation, I had advise her that she is one of those blessed to be a tai tai and has the life to enjoy.
True enough, she is a stay at home mum and has a comfortable life. I mean, after all, “How I can wish I can be a tai tai” is something typically being wished upon. I guess its good life.. where you need not work and can be supported by your husband.
That was when the conversation turned and she posted a question to me. “But a fengshui master had told me before that I should not cook, because I have a lot of fire in my bazi. Is it true??”, said this lady. She was also advise best not to wear red which would not be favorable to her. (Much to her disappointment as she actually enjoy and love red.)
I looked at her chart and I can understand why.
You see, typically, in a bazi chart, it is generally believed that bazi chart is best to have balance. It should not be overwhelmed by one element. In a normal circumstance, this chart is indeed not too good with half the chart in fire.
A person born with many fire in such bazi chart may often get sick and/or highly likely to endure a tough life. (Of course, besides elements, we have to consider the ten gods aspect of each bazi.)
However, this lady’s bazi chart belongs to a bazi chart called “Follower’s chart” (从格). I would save the technicality part of it. But effectively, this chart’s way of reading would be opposite – the stronger the fire the better!
As such, fire is good for her! Fire also stands for her husband and status. As such, able to enjoy a tai tai life. Had the fire been unfavourable to her, she would not have her current life and may not even get married. (Her relationship aspect in this bazi chart does have other flaws, but we shall leave that for another article to explain)
Even under a normal bazi circumstances, I then explained to her, practicality has to be considered in bazi. It cannot be that one should steer away from all fire related stuff if fire is bad for her. No cooking, no walking under the sun (丙 is essentially the sun and fire in bazi context).. then one may find to it hard to live a life with so many "cannot do list". Just like, it cannot be due to one's bazi chart having many water - one should not drink nor swim.
There is a difference between, say, a career for example and daily life.
Bazi reading is after all a mystical science where it can be inferred on many areas. As shared earlier, a base concept in bazi is that every 1 of the bazi character out of the 8, can be represented by elements or different ten gods. This represent certain things in life - status, money, relationship, your thoughts etc and if its good or bad for you. However, the reading has to make sense and there is a line to be drawn. At the end of the day, bazi reading as such should help us and not handicap one.
Nonetheless during the end of reading, I'm glad my client expressed that she does not have to try avoid red clothings. She is happy that it actually brings her luck!
Recently, I saw the sad news of Bollywood star Irfan Khan whom had recently passed on. For anyone who may not be familiar with him, he appeared as the charismatic CEO and owner of the Jurrasic Park in Jurrasic World (2015) movie. He also starred in other Hollywood movies such as The Amazing Spiderman, Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire to name a few. What struck me was at the prime age he was at – age 53 when he passed on due to illness relating to Neuroendocrine tumor.
He announced of his illness back in 2018 and after two years of battle, he left. What I would like to share is some of the warning signs with the arrival of Fan Yin (反吟) and Fu Yin (伏吟) found in his chart.
As the image above shared, he entered into a Fu Yin (伏吟) luck pillar in 2016. This also means he is in the Fu Yin luck for 10 years from 2016 to 2026.
What does Fu Yin mean or imply for a person having it?
What is Fan Yin and Fu Yin?
To give a basic understanding, both terminology can be explained as below.
Fan Yin happens when there is an arrival of a pillar causing elemental clash. Depending on where the clash happen, it signals unfortunate events or can cause harm to the affected person or affect relationships.
"Fu Yin" happens when its the exact same pillar appearing.
It denotes a sad or tear event happening during that stage of your life.
Mostly, these are not exactly good to have in one's bazi chart. Only for some exception cases it may be of good omen.
Elements his bazi chart should avoid
Basing on his bazi chart, we can assume Irfan Khan likely has a strong metal (辛) day master based on his bazi chart. From here, we can denote that his favourable elements are water and wood.
In his case, the encounter with strong resource star signify experiencing poor health and proness to fall sick.
Entering the negative "Fu Yin" luck pillar in 2016 and the trigger
During 2016, the luck pillar of 丙午 pillar appeared and mirrored Irfan Khan's bazi chart at age 49 - as illustrated in point (a) in image. As in the case of "Fu Yin", it is indicating a possible of sad event waiting to happen. When an unfavourable element or time is encountered in the next 10 years, it would trigger an event.
In 2018, the earth dog year arrived as highlighted in point (b) - a strong earth year. Being a strong metal day master, more earth as explained would mean health issue. This is the trigger that cause his bazi to worsen during this "Fu Yin" luck pillar. Through this analysis, we can gather that there is strong odds of unfortunate event manifesting from this illness.
During then, he announced on the social media of his illness where he had a tumor in March 2018.
Appearance of Fu Yin and Fan Yin together during 2020
In 2020, a "Fan Yin" situation now arise in Irfan Khan's chart after his illness. This can be denote through arrival of the 庚子 year clashing into the luck pillar and year pillar of 丙午 - illustrated in pt (d). The top half of 丙 fire attacking 庚 metal and bottom half of 子 water attacking 午 fire. This forms the pillar of 天克地冲, not a good formation to have.
I believe the "Fan Yin" clash together within the "Fu Yin" luck pillar was the last straw and creates alot of instability with negative influence. When a year pillar suffers a clash, it also meant bodily harm. This was shown by a "Fan Yin" clash with his luck pillar too. Sadly, the news of his passing was reported in 2020 at his prime age of just 53.
