Have you been using “Tong Shu" for date selection?

If you are from Singapore, I am sure you have heard of selecting an auspicious date for major occasions - e.g. weddings, home renovation, moving of house, opening of business or even surgery.

Recently, I was asked by a client if its all necessary and if plucking a date from almanac (or Tong Shu) is ok.

For a start, there are various methods of selecting auspicious dates e.g. basing on 12 officers selection (建除十二神) method or using the Auxiliary stars(神煞). This is on top of using the "Tong Shu" (the Chinese Almanac Calendar). So it brings the question, how does a fengshui master value add if dates can be simply picked from the Tong Shu?

​The difference is tailoring and customizing the date to you, the user. Most whom maybe familiar with Tong Shu, would pick on an indicative generic date that mentions suitable for “搬家”, “动土” or “结婚”. But the role of a fengshui master goes beyond that. One role is to filter out dates and use only those suitable to the person's bazi, which is the key. In other words, using just any general selected good dates may mean the risk of clash on the user himself which is inauspicious.

More often than not, such filtering would mostly leave about averagely 1 to 3 good dates within a month.

Moving house? An auspicious date goes a long way for smooth move in and possible bring about greater luck at only a small cost.

 
​For anyone whom is moving or doing renovation or opening of business, I would strongly recommend seeking the dates early. What I notice is e.g. home owners, usually only started to find out auspicious dates just say 2 weeks before your intended move in. They may be in for some disappointment as no auspicious dates are available. As such, they need to settle for a later move in date.

Lastly, just to share something less known to most on using the Tong Shu for general date selection. Do you know that some of dates indicated as auspicious maybe actually be not usable still for moving of house or renovation etc?

​This is due to dates indicated in Tong Shu is only a general classification. It would be a little too technical to explain here. Though what I can share is that each day pillar has a different stars and element which may cause an issue. As such, the suitability of the date may still be not desirable for specific use still.

In conclusion, for major and/or long term bearing activities, (at a small cost) its best to have a good date to embark on to ensure all endeavors goes smoothly and peace of mind!
